An exciting fortnight has passed since my last update — and these past two weeks have been filled with examples of ALIA member engagement and accomplishments:
I enjoyed the thought provoking and well curated Information Online virtual conference– and my mind is still buzzing with thoughts on global megatrends, 3D models of rare books, chokepoint capitalism, and future communities;
I’m happy to announce that the GLAM Top End Group is now active, with co-convenors Sarah Doecke and Stacey Rosser working to connect people from galleries, libraries, archives and museums across the Top End region of the Northern Territory;
And I attended an ALIA SA Group meeting to hear from committee members and meet Anand Kochunny who has stepped into a co-convening role with Taish Shaw. Taish has been chairing the ALIA SA Group for a number of years, and will be working with Anand until the end of 2023 before stepping aside. Taish, you’ve done a wonderful job and will be missed – and a big welcome to Anand – I look forward to attending some of the workshops you are planning.
The excitement continued with today’s National Simultaneous Storytime. I was fortunate to attend the State Library of South Australia’s event in the historic Circulating Library (the first library in South Australia) where The Speedy Sloth was read by State Library Ambassador Jessica Smith. This was the first time the State Library has hosted an NSS event – joining one of the many libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres and bookshops participating in this vibrant and fun event promoting the value of reading and literacy.
I’m always seeking opportunity to connect with ALIA Members. I hope to meet some of the ACT library community for networking drinks after the ALIA AGM in Canberra next week --- and I’ll be in Brisbane on June 21st- 22nd, so please get in touch if you want to chat to me when I’m there.
