INCITE themes and submission deadlines
Digital Issue Mar/Apr 2022: Copy due 18 January 2022 Theme: Inclusion
ALIA President Vicki Edmunds has set her presidential theme as Diversity, and in this issue, we willlook at the related theme of inclusion as an important key to supporting and achieving diversity. Libraries often aspire to be ‘open to all’, and in this issue we’ll be showcasing initiatives that help make library spaces, collections and activities more inclusive and safer for all who use and work in them.
May/Jun 2022: Copy due 15 March 2022 Theme: Specialisation
Libraries are places for specialist knowledge – staffed by workers with different specialist backgrounds, and serving people who are often specialists in their own fields. This issue will look at how libraries provide value in their specialisation, from special libraries in health, law and other areas of focus, to school and tertiary library work in literacy and curriculum, and cultural and community organisations in serving the needs of their communities.
Digital Issue Jul/Aug 2022: Copy due 17 May 2022 Theme: Thinking global
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) form an integral part of ALIA’s work in addressing the many challenges faced by the world. They provide a framework for libraries to consider the ways that their work at the local level can help prompt change on a global scale. This issue will also look at how librarians can expand their horizons, and make a contribution on an international scale.
Sep/Oct 2022: Copy due 19 July 2022 Theme: Trust
Libraries and librarians have often been identified as being trusted institutions and professionals. However, a trusting relationship is something that takes work, and this issue will explore the ways that libraries build trust with their communities. At the same time, libraries are not neutral. By challenging ideas of libraries being inherently good, we can help repair past trauma, and work to rebuild trust by creating safer spaces and services.
Digital Issue Nov/Dec 2022: Copy due 20 September 2022 Theme: Solutions
Library workers are often skilled problem-solvers, whether in the way they design spaces, provide services or manage organisations. From the reference desk, librarians address the needs of those who walk in the door and provide solutions. Technology can help, but a level of interpersonal skill is often essential. And when operational challenges arise, there is a need for decisive leadership to ensure that the library is in a strong position to continue to deliver its services.
