ALIA calls for library and information professionals to make a #MentalHealthPromise

Canberra, 10 October 2019: The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) is pleased to support Mental Health Day, today 10 October 2019. The day aims to raise public awareness of mental health issues worldwide.

Robert Knight OAM, ALIA President, met with Frank Quinlan, Mental Health Australia CEO, to talk about how libraries can support important conversations around mental health. He has also made a #MentalHealthPromise on the official website to ‘ensure that all staff know the importance of mental wellbeing at work’.

Robert Knight said, ‘libraries across Australia are having important conversations about mental health and providing support to people with mental health issues. ALIA is calling for library and information professionals around the nation to lead the way and make a #MentalHealthPromise on the official website’.
Frank Quinlan said ‘we are delighted to have ALIA join us in promoting World Mental Health Day and commend their commitment to raising awareness of mental health issues that so many Australians face.

‘ALIA is adding their voice to the more than 400 organisations around Australia who are getting on board World Mental Health Day in an effort to reduce stigma and encourage connectivity and help-seeking behaviours in our communities. It has been wonderful to see all the #MentalHealthPromises being made, and we are excited for all the upcoming events on the day itself’.
