ALIA statement on Afghanistan

As libraries around the world work towards achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, our deep concerns are for the best possible outcome for all people in Afghanistan, and particularly women and girls.

The SDGs prioritise gender equity, quality education, health and wellbeing and it is our sincere hope that these goals are respected by those in positions of power.

We know that our libraries will do all they can to support diaspora Afghan people in their communities who share the pain of families and loved ones remaining behind and we welcome those who arrive in Australia as new migrants over the coming days and weeks.

Following the release of this media release the ALIA Board has also signed the Joint statement and call to action in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan
