Experience the new and improved ALIA website from 23 August

Driven by user-centred design, the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has been working on a new website and Member Centre which are both set to launch on 23 August 2021.

There will be a cleaner, more user-friendly layout; ALIA Members and visitors to the website will be able to find information more easily; it will streamline event and training registrations, and make it simpler for Members to track their professional development.

As part of this upgrade, the current ALIA website and Member Centre will be temporarily offline.

  • The Member Centre will be inaccessible from 17 August 2021.
  • The public facing website will be inaccessible from 21 August 2021.
  • Both will be back online from 23 August 2021.

During the website and Member Centre down-time, ALIA will continue to be active on social media and contactable via phone and email.

What you need to know:

The login process will be simplified. On the new website you will only need your email address and newly reset password. For institutions this will be managed by the company administrator.

Changes to the ALIA professional development tracking tool

ALIA’s professional development tracking tool will now be called the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Logbook. The tracking tool looks and feels a little different, but is easy to use with reflective practice based activities. Learning activities show immediately and the trackers update overnight, so you don’t have to wait long to see your achievements recorded and your progress towards your goal highlighted.  Your details that are currently held in the Member Centre, including your CPD hours, will be saved and will be available from 23 August.

Future planned changes

The new website and Member centre to be launched in August will not be the final version. At present, the future development plans include new features such as personal pronoun choices and Indigenous place names as fields in the Member Centre.

We are also looking at an opt-in way of connecting members through public-facing social media, such as your LinkedIn profile, making you more discoverable to former colleagues wanting to catch up and potential employers who would benefit from your skills.

We will be asking you to send your comments and suggestions for further improvements through a survey and we will be reporting back at the end of September to let you know about further refinements we plan to introduce. Any questions, please get in touch: [email protected] 02 6215 8222

For more information, ALIA has prepared an information sheet, which also provides further details and the answers to some common questions.
