Canberra, 9 December 2020: Once again, the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) will be celebrating libraries during Library and Information Week under the theme ‘Adventures in Space and Time’ from 17-23 May 2021.
This theme is inspired by the National Simultaneous Storytime book, Give me some space by Philip Bunting and published by Scholastic Australia. The book is currently on the International Space Station in anticipation for the event next year on 19 May 2021.
Furthermore, libraries are places to explore ideas of space, such as innovative library building designs, creative areas for interaction, and engaging online spaces, and to explore time, remembering the past and imagining the future, through collections and emerging technology. Capitalising on this reputation, ALIA is encouraging libraries to participate and showcase what their library has to offer, to encourage patrons to visit their local library.
Each of the days of the week is themed:
• Monday: Careers Day
• Tuesday: Library Technicians Day
• Wednesday: National Simultaneous Storytime
• Thursday: Fundraising Day
• Friday: Join ALIA Day
To help libraries participate ALIA has created free collateral and is selling merchandise. You can find more information about the week on the ALIA website.
