Over the past year, artificial intelligence has hit a tipping point. AI tools aren't just an experiment, they're transforming industries and workplaces whether we choose to use them or not. Which means that you should choose to use them. As leaders in information management and information literacy, libraries play a key role in promoting effective use of these tools. In this session, Professor Kai Riemer and Dr Pat Norman, from Sydney Executive Plus at the University of Sydney, will discuss why AI fluency is the most critical skill for the next decade, and challenge you to think about what AI means in your context.
This is the first in a planned series of ALIA webinars exploring developments in AI and their impact on libraries.
Presenters
Kai Riemer is Professor of Information Technology and Organisation and Head of the Business Information Systems Discipline at the University of Sydney Business School. He is the founder and co-leader of the Digital Futures Research Group and convener of DISRUPT.SYDNEY. His expertise spans disruptive innovation, digital commerce, collaborative systems, the future of work, emerging technologies, and the philosophy of technology. Kai has extensive experience with industry-funded research and leads a Linkage project initiative on managing end-user technologies, sponsored by the Australian Research Council. Kai’s research appears in journals such as MIS Quarterly, European Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Information Technology, or Information Systems Journal. Kai is a board member of the Journal of Information Technology and the Business and Information Systems Engineering journal.
Dr Pat Norman is Senior Research Officer, Sydney Executive Plus at the University of Sydney Business School. His doctoral thesis explored teacher professional identity, ethics, and policy enactment in the context of neoliberalism. Pat's research interests include professional identity and [[practical wisdom]], artificial intelligence, the future of work and management, and approaches to flourishing under neoliberalism. Pat collaborates on the delivery of programs related to megatrends and the future of work, corporate foresight and strategy, changing management practices, AI fluency, and innovation in business. He also writes on pop culture and social theory, and has published research in Critical Studies in Education, the Australian Educational Researcher, and Teaching in Higher Education. He was a business librarian for five years and tweets at @pat_norman.
